FAQ: How do I set scheduled blocking?

The accessibility feature occasionally turns itself off automatically on some Android devices. Unfortunately, BlockSite has no control over this and it is a known bug in the Android operating system.

However, on most devices, you can disable app optimization for BlockSite in Settings to stop it from disabling accessibility. This is usually found in Settings > Battery.

Here are some more possible solutions… please give them a try!

1. Enable “Battery Optimization”

  • For devices with Android 6.0 and higher, go to Settings -> Battery, click the menu icon in the top-right corner (3 vertical dots), and select “Battery Optimization”. Then select “All Apps” from the drop-down list, select BlockSite, and choose “Don’t Optimize”.
  • For Samsung Galaxy devices (SG 5 and later), check to see if you have App Battery Optimizer in Samsung Smart Manager app enabled. Please disable this as it is known to disable BlockSite’s Accessibility Service. You’ll want to go to Android Settings > General > Battery, and look under App Optimization and select Details. Then find BlockSite and turn it off.
  • For Huawei phones, go to Settings > Apps > Advanced Options > Ignore Optimizations and toggle “allow” for BlockSite.
  • For Some Xiaomi models, try the following:
Go to settings >>Installed apps >> BlockSite >> Other Permissions >> Enable all 3 permissions >> Go to Accessibility and disable and then enable BlockSite again.

  • For other devices, it is possible that you might have a task manager that automatically closes applications periodically. If you do, please add BlockSite to the whitelist (apps that are excluded from being automatically closed) of the application.

2. Make sure that ‘Draw over other apps’ is enabled for BlockSite.

3. Make sure you are using one of the following supported browsers on your Android device: Chrome, FireFox, Opera, Opera Mini and Brave.

In order for BlockSite to work in incognito mode, you must enable it first:

  1. Open the Google Chrome that BlockSite is installed on.
  2. Right-click the BlockSite toolbar icon and choose ‘Manage extensions’.
  3. Scroll down and enable “Allow in incognito”.

BlockSite is not an ad, pop-up or notification blocker, but rather a browser extension and mobile app for Google Chrome, Firefox, Android and iOS mobile devices that enables you to block websites, apps and keywords that may be distracting, addictive or harmful.

If you installed BlockSite for Google Chrome but can’t see it on your toolbar, it is probably under the puzzle icon. For a quick and easy access to BlockSite, follow these steps:
  1. Click the puzzle icon on your toolbar.
  2. Find ‘BlockSite’.
  3. Click the pin icon.
Pinning BlockSite enables you to easily access shortcuts and be more productive.

Yes. By deselecting the checkbox next to the words “Block Adult Sites” which can be found under the Settings tab of the Options page for the Block Site extension. For the mobile app: By selecting the checkbox next to the words “Opt Out” which can be found in the About screen of the application. Note that once you opt out, some of the Services provided by Block Site will no longer be available.

When surfing a website while in incognito mode, the site will be blocked and you will be redirected to a new tab page. On this page you will see “Not available on this page”. Please navigate to a website and it should be resolved.

On Extension:

If you forgot your password you can request to have it sent to the email address from which you initially set up your account.

Another option would be to go to a blocked site in your browser and click “Forgot Password?” and then check your mail (spam as well) for an email from BlockSite to reset your password.

On Mobile:

We will have a “Forgot Password” option soon. In the meantime please go to:

Device settings → Applications (or installed apps on some devices) → Blocksite → Clear data
